Many women confuses fibrocystic breast with breast cancer but two are different types of diseases. First of all, the later is life threatening while the former is not. Fibrocystic breast diseases are not dangerous but they can be intensely painful. It can attack both of your breasts or one at a time or just one. Mostly, fibrocystic breast diseases are caused by PMS and the person suffering from it experiences lumpy and sore breast with sometimes intense pain. The lump can be either benign or can be large.

Fibrocystic breast lumps are mostly thick and feels tender when touched. If they grow large they tend to shrink which is very annoying. Though there is no prohibited area for it to grow they mostly occur around the armpits close to your fore arm. Generally, this disease affects women only after thirty though there are some occasional cases where it has occurred to women below thirty. While some women only get mild pain, others have reported to feel intense pain from the disease. Fibrocystic breast lumps marks its end with menopause though in rare cases the disease persist even after menopause.

So how will you detect whether you are suffering from fibrocystic breast and not cancer. The best way to be assured is to visit a gynecologist and get an ultrasound and mammogram done. The doctor will ask you to repeat the test after a few weeks to become assured that it is not cancer. You must repeat the mammograms tests from time to time as fibrocystic breasts are more susceptible to cancer.
